THE STORY BEHIND THE VIDEO

Joe Gillis, Odin Abbott, and the Groovie Ghoulies shot 3 music videos for the Ghoulies’ Monster Club album: Running with Bigfoot, Don’t Go Out into the Rain (You’re Going to Melt), and the unreleased 50,000 Spaceships (Watching Over Me). They shot all 3 videos on the same day, grabbing shots as they drove up into Bigfoot country in Northern California. Additional pick ups of Kepi singing in Running with Bigfoot, the Hunter sequence, and Bigfoot cutaways were completed shortly after. Joe and Odin shot the Hunter sequence and Bigfoot cutaways without the Ghoulies or any other crew members, setting the shot ahead of time for the points where they appear onscreen together.

The Wayne’s World News tabloid first appeared in Joe Gillis’ 9 Items or Less short film in 1995. He wanted a tabloid for Running with Bigfoot, so he went with one he already created—and he even referenced his film with the “Did Bigfoot Find Love in Mexico” edition.

Joe and Odin made all versions of the tabloids, but they were able to use Photoshop for Running with Bigfoot instead of cutting-and-pasting images like they did for 9 Items or Less. The digital versions made it easy to create higher res versions of all the images when converting Running with Bigfoot to HD.

The tabloid’s name isn’t a nod to the amazing Mike Myers character. Nope, it’s actually Joe’s middle name.

All the tabloid stories are based on Groovie Ghoulies songs, except for the one referencing 9 Items or Less.
